Mental Health Confident

A two day mental health training for Frontline Work Programme staff, providing knowledge and skills to enable staff to feel more confident in working with customers with mental health conditions, and learn ways of maintaining engagement in work related activity and maximising sustainability in open employment

Why Mental Health Confident?

We know that customers with Mental Health Conditions are the biggest single disability group amongst those presenting for the Work Programme (estimated at 40% of all claimants) and that people with mental health problems remain likely to have the lowest employment rates of any disability group. Long-term unemployment and worklessness also leads to common mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression. Research indicates that between 16-25% of society in general is likely to experience a mental health issue in any one year, and that 25% of those will remain undiagnosed and unsupported. Such conditions present a real challenge to successful initial and continued engagement, and achieving the desired outcome of sustained employment, in services such as the Work Programme.

This two-day course aims to provide knowledge and skills to enable Frontline Work Programme staff to feel more confident in working with customers with mental health conditions, be they at an overt diagnosed level, or an as yet undiagnosed, symptomatic level.
